ARTE Documentary: Covid: Security vs Freedom I ARTE Documentary
Teacher or professor: ARTE Documentary
Subject: Science
Content of the Lesson: Have restrictive measures such as lockdown infringed citizens’ basic rights? Are restrictions lawful? And what are their social, economic and health repercussions? ARTE takes a look at divergent measures taken by France, Germany and Sweden in response to coronavirus pandemic. National confinement, compulsory wearing of masks, closures of establishments, curfews ... The outbreak of the coronavirus in Europe has upset our daily lives, by inciting almost all European governments to impose exceptional measures that have dramatic consequences on economic, social and human levels. The limits to freedoms adopted by the French government at the height of the first wave are among the strictest on the continent. Sweden is an exception: the Scandinavian state has refused to restrict the individual freedoms of its citizens, contenting itself with incentive measures. Swedes have still lived almost normally for months. As for Germany, it follows an intermediate trajectory between these two "extremes". Which strategy pays off the most? Critics remain numerous within the population and even among experts, in the face of crisis management that is sometimes difficult to read. By undermining the rule of law and exacerbating social conflicts, and especially inequalities, is French confinement a worse remedy than the evil? Conversely, has Swedish liberalism consciously sacrificed the most vulnerable? And how should we explain the "docility" of the Germans, who almost unanimously support the measures taken? While the second wave is hitting Europe again, this survey sets out to meet experts from all walks of life - researchers, doctors, psychologists, sociologists, lawyers and activists - to take stock of the current crisis. many questions and fears emerge, especially regarding the future. has this been removed from the web? And why?
ReplyDeleteThe problem is: This is ARTE, an European TV station that is not allowed to have videos to be published for too long in the internet. They have to remove older videos regularly according to the so-called "Depublication Act". They sometime republish them completely new, but nevertheless it's annoying.
