Content of the Lesson: The pandemic has highlighted just how much we are dependent on globalised supply chains for our groceries. Many people now want to grow their own food or source produce much more locally. ARTE's focuses on Berlin where a rural revolution is taking place. Tanja Jacobi's dream of having her own vegetable garden on the outskirts of Berlin has become a reality. This summer, the psychologist harvested her first onions, zucchini and peppers. She has rented a plot from a market gardener who is adept at new forms of solidarity agriculture and whose objective is to convert her clients into producers. For Tanja, producing her own vegetables means freedom and, above all, independence. This trend is also at work in top Berlin restaurants, where young chefs like Vadim Otto Ursus favour regional products. In his dacha in the heart of Brandenburg, he experiments with the wild plants he collects there. The health crisis has reinforced his approach, and he is determined to put regional flavours back in the spotlight for his recipes.
