ARTE Documentary: Macaque Monkeys in Thailand I ARTE Documentary

Teacher or professor: ARTE Documentary
Subject: Science
Content of the Lesson: On a Thai island close to Myanmar, Macaque monkeys have created their own tools to live in their unique environment. A study of a fascinating species. In 2007, while conducting a biodiversity inventory to attempt to assess the impact of the tsunami that occurred three years earlier, a team of researchers led by primatologist Amanda Tan discovered macaques on the Thai island of Piak Nam Yai using stone tools to break the seashells they enjoy on the beach. Now world famous, these macaques, revered by Buddhists, have adapted to their local environment whilst being environmentally-friendly. Meet these remarkable monkeys, as playful as they are inventive, whose stories also tell a part of our evolution.
