Content of the Lesson: Living in Guernica, Argentina, is nobody's dream but everybody's last resort. The pandemic left these families no longer able to pay rent, and so instead the shanty town of Guernica sprang up in July in a matter of days. But even this last refuge is under threat, as the land the shacks are built on is private property, earmarked for a luxury development.  In Argentina, Covid-19 continues to spread despite the longest confinement in the world. The Buenos Aires region and its 15 million inhabitants have been subject to strict measures since mid-March. As a result, the already critical economic situation continues to deteriorate. Poverty reached 41% of the population in the first half of the year and 18.5 million people in the country. The health and economic crisis has pushed many families to the streets. In Argentina, as in many countries, no longer receiving a salary means no longer being able to pay rent and being evicted. Since mid-July, more than 2,500 families have occupied a large piece of land in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. The name of the site: Guernica. What initially looked like a huge wasteland has evolved into a small town of shacks and makeshift shelters.
