Content of the Lesson: Tsutomu Yamaguchi was in the worst place at the worst time twice over. On August 6, 1945, he was working in Hiroshima when the atomic bomb exploded over the city. Traumatised by the apocalyptic experience, he just wanted to go back home to his family. Except home was Nagasaki.  On the 6th and 9th of August, 1945, the USA detonated two nuclear weapons over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The catastrophic bombings resulted in the deaths of between 129,000 and 226,000 people. The vast majority of the victims were civilians. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki represents the only uses of nuclear weapons during armed conflict.
