ARTE Documentary: South Africa's First Shamans l ARTE Documentary

Teacher or professor: ARTE Documentary
Subject: Science
Content of the Lesson: Archaeologist Peter Eeckhout takes us around the world to reveal the mysteries of ancient civilisations and cultures. In South Africa, the San people have created over 35,00 pieces of rock art on the cliffs of the Drakensberg nature reserve, some of which are over 30,000 years old. The Sans, also known as Bushmen, are hunter-gatherers. What stories did these men set in stone? Join our archaeological quest and get to know the first shamans of South Africa... Archaeologists have succeeded in decoding this rock art by studying the pigments and deciphering the symbolism of the characters. By using neuropsychology and ethnology they also discovered that trance dances were at the origin of these paintings. ARTE Documentary is here to tell you more about what’s going on in the world of culture and current affairs with powerful, refreshing and entertaining docs subtitled in English for our international fans.
