Content of the Lesson: Archaeologist Peter Eeckhout goes in search of the secrets of ancient civilisations. Recent excavations at Minoan sites on Crete are changing our ideas about these historic peoples. Was the site at Knossos really the palace of the mythic King Minos with his labyrinth and fearsome Minotaur? Archaeologist Peter Eeckhout explores current construction sites and unveils the secrets of ancient civilizations. Recent excavations in the monuments of Knossos, Phaistos and Sissi have made it possible to decode the sumptuous and complex buildings built in Crete by the Minoan civilization, between 3000 and 1400 BC. From 3000 to 1400 BC. AD, Crete was the cradle of the first great civilisation in the Greek world: the Minoans. As the first European people to master writing, they built sumptuous buildings whose complex and monumental architecture has never ceased to puzzle archaeologists. Greek myths have long been used to explain these structures. Recent excavations in the monuments of Knossos, Phaistos and Sissi have finally led to the decoding of these buildings, thanks to the spatial syntax. This revolutionary method makes it possible to deduce the use of a building by analysing its accessibility and the connections between the rooms that compose it.
