How JAPANESE TOYS took over our World | Nintendo, Godzilla, Transformers, Ultraman
Toys from Japan have always been innovative, from the 1954 Godzilla movie on, character toys sparked the imagination of generations. From cinema and TV, the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s brought us Kamen Rider, Ultraman, Super Sentai and many others still popular today. The 80s also brought us the Nintendo revolution, a company that started selling cars and paper models to the Ultra Machine and Ultra Hand, it broke out with the Family Computer (Famikon) in 1983 and the NES in 1985 in the USA then the Gameboy which put it all in your pocket. The 2000s is really the digital age, less toys - more about nostalgia with toys sold as much to adults as kids. The future looks mostly digital and I'll be back for Part 2! Thank you to Matt Alt for making the trip to Hokkaido with me to check out Wakaki-san's store and museum.
