Taken in September 2021, this image captures the father-daughter relationship between this dying female gorilla and the man who took her in when she was two months old. These rangers and keepers work to protect endangered species in the oldest natural park in Africa. The photographer, Brent Stirton, captured the duo's close relationship multiple times throughout the years. But this last embrace was the final photo he ever took of the pair.
