WATCH: USA: The Paedophile Scandal Among the Boy Scouts In Russia, the system of elite schools from the Soviet era continues to exist, in which young athletes are promoted and trained with all their might, so that in the future the best artists will also come from Moscow, Saint Petersburg or Novosibirsk. But thousands of talented youngsters fall by the wayside. Because only the best, most eager and most talented children can later become prima ballerinas or Olympic athletes. At the Boris Eifmann Ballet School, children as young as seven stretch, dance and train all day in order to one day be among the best in the world. Hundreds of girls and boys face each other as friends and competitors in their daily life together at this elite boarding school. And every week there is competition to see who gets to dance the best roles and who might still fall through the cracks. The 16-year-old Lala Kramarenk is already one of the best gymnasts in Russia and subordinates her entire youth to this success. From the daily drill in training to strict diets and constant renunciation, her whole life revolves around becoming one of the best. While Lala is considered a future medal hope for the Olympic Games, her twin sister has already hung up her sports career at the age of 14 because she could not stand the pressure. How much Soviet Union is still in Russia's elite sports schools in 2021? How hard is the Russian path to success? 🗓 Available until the 26/05/2022 ARTE Documentary is here to tell you more about what’s going on in the world of culture and current affairs with powerful, refreshing and entertaining docs subtitled in English for our international fans.
