Bars, restaurants and cinemas were open again, as well as the swimming pools. Scientists argued that there was a herd immunity among the inhabitants of the big cities on the subcontinent. Because of that, the government allowed for religious festivities and political rallies to go ahead, often with millions of people drawing in from all around the country. But the appearance of the new Indian variant of the Corona virus, the so-called double mutant, has made the nation fall back into crisis. With new symptoms of disease, the new virus spread five times faster than the first wave. Worse still, the double mutant appears undetectable by PCR tests. Hospitals are overwhelmed and health workers are working relentlessly, in constant fear of becoming infected themselves. India is hit harder than ever by the new Covid-19 strain. And the country is literally suffocating to death. Relatives of the infected rush from hospital to hospital searching fruitlessly for help, but there are no beds for the sick. Oxygen has become the most precious resource but, due to the extreme scarcity of it, people are dying in the hospital parking lots. Some hospitals are so desperate for oxygen they've sued the government.
