A focus on the fabulous natural heritage of the Central American country that is leading the way in protecting and regenerating biodiversity. Tropical dry forest once covered the entire Pacific coast of Central America. Today, it only exists in the form of isolated "vestiges". In Costa Rica, however, it is being reborn thanks to the efforts of biologists and the local population. Declining species such as the jaguar, the ultimate predator of American ecosystems, are seeing their numbers increase significantly. The flora and fauna of this little-known biotope have adapted to the drought that overwhelms it six months a year: toads take refuge underground to avoid dehydration; mammals, like spider monkeys, patiently endure extreme heat and change their diet according to the seasons; the wasps, but also some birds, migrate towards the humid forests which surround the nearby volcanoes ... Abundant ecosystems Costa Rica is a gem without equal on the planet. Not only has it put an end to the destruction of its forests, but it has also become, in just thirty years, a veritable sanctuary for more than 5% of the world's biodiversity. A network of national parks unique in the world protects its teeming ecosystems. Dry and humid tropical forests, maritime parks: despite countless challenges, the preservation of these natural environments and their fauna is more than ever a priority for this small country in Central America.
