Meditate #WithMe - Intro to Meditation & Mindfulness for Students

Teacher or professor: Socratica
Subject: Mathematics, Computer Science, Algebra, Astronomy, Science
Content of the Lesson: Have you been afraid to try meditation? This calm, peaceful introduction to the subject will help dispel myths and misunderstandings about meditation. Come Meditate With Me! Socratica Friends, we’ve been pretty stressed during the Pandemic Time. But one thing that has really helped has been practicing meditation. Did you know that there are lots of different kinds of meditation? There’s Zazen Meditation (where you sit in the lotus position and pay close attention to your breath). There’s Transcendental Meditation (where you repeat a special mantra to yourself). There’s Guided Meditation, where a teacher takes you on a mental journey, and you practice visualization. There’s no one perfect way to meditate. There are many ways to explore mindfulness. If you’ve been afraid of failing at meditation, please let that fear go. As long as you are trying to meditate, you ARE meditating! It’s all in the trying. It’s very natural to sit down to meditate and get distracted. That’s kind of the whole point of meditating, actually - to get distracted, acknowledge it, and refocus back on your meditation. In this video, Socratica co-founder Kimberly Hatch Harrison will explain some of the basics of meditation, and then lead you in a soothing Yoga Nidra practice. Don’t let the name fool you - yoga nidra does not involve yoga poses on a mat. Rather, it’s a quiet, simple mental exercise that involves scanning your body and becoming more aware and more present. This is a method to integrate your mind and your body (sometimes called mind-body integration). We’ve made the mp3 recording of the Yoga Nidra practice available to download for free, so you can take it with you anywhere and continue to practice, even when you're offline and can’t watch our video on YouTube.
