Content of the Lesson: Live fast, love hard, die young. Jimi Hendrix, perhaps the most talented and influential guitarist of the twentieth century, famously died at the age of just 27 in 1970. This documentary tells his life story from humbles beginnings in Seattle to his time gigging in Greenwich Village in New York to his ultimate rise to fame in swinging London of the 1960s. All it took was a $5 acoustic guitar, bought by his father in the 1950s, for one of the greatest musical legends of the last century to flourish. As rock'n'roll makes its debut, Jimi Hendrix practices rehearsing the songs of the great masters that will form his inimitable style, a blend of blues, rock and psychedelia. After a few years alongside Little Richard and Wilson Pickett, during which he learned to perform, he was spotted in 1966 by Keith Richards' girlfriend in Greenwich Village. She introduces him to Chas Chandler, musician of the group The Animals, who is looking to get into production. It was under his leadership, in the sleepless London of the Swinging Sixties, that Jimi Hendrix formed his band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and soared to success.
