Our feline friends kill large amounts of small mammals and birds threatening delicate ecosystems around the world. Despite its ten millennia of domestication, domestic cats the world over still retain their predatory instincts. In the United States, cats are believed to kill more than 1.5 billion birds and 7 billion small mammals each year. A scourge for the fauna of these fragile ecosystems that include islands such as New Caledonia or Australia, cats threaten areas where many endemic species live.
