Content of the Lesson: The 18km long Kresna Gorge in Bulgaria is a natural paradise. According to biologist Andrey Kovatchev, this Natura 2000 site is home to more species of butterflies than all of England. But the construction of a highway, partly funded by the EU, threatens the future of the gorge.  Campaigns mount against this new environmental threat. The Kresna Gorge is an ecological paradise for protected species, including many rare animals and plants. But now the Bulgarian government plans to build a motorway right through the valley. The situation has caused alarm amongst environmentalist who seek aid and demand that the motorway runs outside the valley.
