Content of the Lesson: Today, Hayden from Help Me Believe is presenting some evidence for a historical Jesus. This is not the Jesus of the Gospels but a historical figure that started the Christian religion. He starts off with Pliny the Younger which is peculiar, to say the least. All Pliny does is cite second century Christians. Then he moves to Tacitus. At face value, all Tacitus does is give us Christians in Rome during the Burning of Rome. But there is a good case for interpolation. Both of Josephus' references are also brought up. I contest that the James reference is partially interpolated and the Testamonium Flavianum is wholly inserted. He rounds things out with Bart Ehrman claiming there are 7 sources that independently attest to Jesus but Hayden doesn't list them.
