Sierre Leone's Fashion Moguls | ARTE.tv Documentary
For the past two and a half years, Mary Ann Kai Kai has been teaching women Gara Tie Dye, the process of making batik fabrics, as part of a training programme. For single mother Isatu Conteh, who had to drop out of school because of her pregnancy, Gara is a passport to a self-determined and independent life. In the neighborhoods around Freetown's landmark, the 300-year-old Cotton Tree, a vibrant fashion scene has been growing for some time, in which women develop new styles and trends from traditional Sierra Leonean fabrics.
