For our #DeepLook episode, "How Does the Mussel Grow Its Beard?", our digital video designer Teodros Hailye narrates how he created this unique animation using ZBrush and Cinema 4D software to illustrate how mussels create byssal threads, known as the mussel’s “beard". They use these threads to attach themselves to rocks and each other. A mussel utilizes its sensitive foot to mold the threads from scratch and apply a waterproof adhesive that makes superglue jealous.
