On November 2cnd 1930 Tafari Makonnen aged 38 became emperor of Ethiopia under the name of Haile Selassie. Festivities in Addis-Ababa lasted seven days with foreign emissaries from France, Italy and Britain invited to witness the splendour of the occasion.
