Revitalising the Earth I ARTE.tv Documentary
On the French Caribbean island of Martinique , large-scale use of insecticides caused serious damage. But the earth is being revitalised by several initiatives inspired by age-old agricultural practices. A Documentary by Florence Lazar. In Martinique, about a quarter of the soil is contaminated with pesticides, due to the massive use of chlordecone. This compound was used for decades to protect the most important export product of the island: the banana. This documentary reveals the consequences of this contamination, as well as the initiatives that have been launched, based on ancestral knowledge, to revitalize the land.
