The Hargila or Greater adjutant, one of the largest storks on the planet, was listed as endangered in 2014. Although this huge scavenger plays an essential role in the ecological balance of Asia's wetlands, it still has a bad reputation. In India, it is considered a bad omen and its nests are often destroyed. But a group of local women are trying to save this misunderstood bird by forming a grassroots organisation, the Hargila Army.
