Demonstrating Rotation | Weight and Latitude
Last Summer we went on vacation to Florida, always the scientist, I took the opportunity to conduct and experiment on the trip to Florida and back. 1/ If the earth is a rotating sphere, the centrifugal rotation will change with latitude while the mass of the earth hold gravity constant. 2/ If the centrifugal force changes with latitude, then the measured weight of a reference mass calibrated in Michigan (and Florida) will change, with the mass getting 'lighter' as it moves from N. to S., and 'heavier' as it moves from S. to N. 3/ To control for differences in elevation, a different route will be taken on each phase of the trip- Through the mountains going S. and in flat land going N. Here I present my findings.
