Nathan and the Sextant | The Horizon



Science deniers like to try to raise doubt about 'what' horizon we are using with a sextant. Little do they know not only does refraction make very little difference in the position (generally on the order of 3 miles or less), but we don't even need to use a horizon... We can get a reading to a celestial object off the vertical, not to mention the dip correction brings the horizon to the horizontal plane of the observer.
