Nigeria: The Plight of the Witch Children I ARTE Documentary tv news

WATCH: Mozambique: A Cursed Eldorado - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM-200N3uWw Children in #Nigeria who are accused of being #witches are cast out into the streets by their families. There, they desperately try to earn enough to live by going through rubbish dumps. They are easy targets for predators, and sexual abuse is an every day occurrence. This rather recent phenomenon has grown considerably over the past twenty years, fuelled by self-proclaimed prophets who seek to manage the fears of the population to make a fortune quickly by offering #exorcism sessions for a fee. In Nigeria, in the east of the country, some adults have made the protection of the "skolombo" the fight of a lifetime. This is the case of Sam Ituama, who has led a 20-year fight against the obscurantism and ignorance of these families and false prophets. Despite limited resources, his NGO "Child's Right And Rehabilitation Network" is stepping up rescues by trying to save and reintegrate as many children as possible 🗓 Available until the 24/05/2024 ARTE Documentary is here to tell you more about what’s going on in the world of culture and current affairs with powerful, refreshing and entertaining docs subtitled in English for our international fans.
