Colombia: Petrol, Peace and the Pope I ARTE Documentary tv national liberation army colombia

WATCH: Colombia: The Peasants' Revolt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btk9NBws6EE In Colombia, there is a guerrilla movement as old as FARC that is still in action: the National Liberation Army or ELN. Born of the Cuban revolution, reputed to be more radical than FARC, but also more deeply rooted in the population, the ELN is especially surprising because of two major characteristics: its propensity to blow up oil pipelines and to extort money from multinational companies - which has sometimes earned it the nickname "petroguerilla". On the other hand, there is its strange links with Catholicism, as the ELN has always drawn its inspiration from liberation theology. However, it was Pope Francis himself who announced a first, miraculous ceasefire. Since then, the ELN has resumed its attacks and fighting. ARTE Reportage explores a zone of influence of the ELN, on the border with Venezuela, where a huge multinational extracts black gold to the great displeasure of a population that hardly benefits from it, and which, abandoned to its fate by the central state, would tend to support the rebels. 🗓 Available until the 27/01/2022 ARTE Documentary is here to tell you more about what’s going on in the world of culture and current affairs with powerful, refreshing and entertaining docs subtitled in English for our international fans.
