Libya: 10 Years After the Revolution I ARTE Documentary

WATCH: Arab Spring: 10 Years On https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-eZcc0GI8-W-_xe6hhMPY1zcpi1HsiPE Ten years ago, on 17 February 2011, the youth of Benghazi had the courage to revolt against their dictator Muammar Gaddafi. Ten years later, there is not a fully fledged civil war anymore, but the situation in Libya remains precarious. Having just appointed a new government of national unity, the country is still deeply divided between the western coastal towns, whose inhabitants protested against the regime at the time, and the east, which Marshal Khalifa Haftar now controls with an iron fist. This division is like a wound for Libyans, embodied in the two cities, which regularly clash violently: Benghazi and Tripoli. A decade on, former rebels who battled Gaddafi's forces share their hopes and disappointments; loyal supporters of Marshal Haftar speak out; grieving families search for loved ones in recently discovered mass graves. And young people in Libya still hope for a future of peace, freedom and democracy. 🗓 Available until the 20/03/2024 ARTE Documentary is here to tell you more about what’s going on in the world of culture and current affairs with powerful, refreshing and entertaining docs subtitled in English for our international fans.
