Bangkok: Tradition and Modernity I ARTE Documentary

WATCH: The North: Hill People, Digital Nomads and Wine Making https://youtu.be/RM6Tx3cZNvU Thailand, a country of great diversity: its people and its landscapes are a true festival of colours. In the metropolitan Bangkok, historical heritage and the leap towards the future are clashing, rapidly transforming the Thai capital. How can nature, progress and tradition coexist in a country that is daring to jump into the future? Bangkok, the fishing village that turned into a metropolis has become one of the biggest and most exciting cities of the world. The construction boom that has been going on for decades shows no sign of abating, and those who have not been there for a long time hardly recognise Bangkok in many corners. Skyscrapers are sprouting up and traffic is constantly increasing. Tuktuks, boats and bright yellow buses take the viewer on streets and canals through the colourful and densely populated metropolis. In the Muslim quarter, you can discover traditional silk weaving - and learn about the ancient art of puppetry at the Baan Silapin artists' house. In the midst of the sea of skyscrapers, a pair of architects is working to establish a sustainable way of building in Thailand. And a young star chef works with regional ingredients from organic cultivation and reinvents the country's classic street food - on a gourmet level.
