Algeria: The Return of the Hirak - ARTE
WATCH: Arab Spring: 10 Years on https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-eZcc0GI8-W-_xe6hhMPY1zcpi1HsiPE The so-called " Hirak ", the popular movement against the Algerian regime, is back on the streets just in time for its second anniversary. The first demonstrations began on 16 February 2019 in Kherrata, a Berber village 350 kilometres from Algiers. By the standards there in the mountains, it was like a tidal wave, a joyously excited crowd taking over the streets. Two years later, to the day, it started again. For a fortnight, our reporters followed the new protests, from Kherrata to Algiers, where tens of thousands of demonstrators broke through police roadblocks. Covid-19 has not curbed the citizens' anger at the corrupt and authoritarian regime. Available until the 10/03/2024 ARTE Documentary is here to tell you more about what’s going on in the world of culture and current affairs with powerful, refreshing and entertaining docs subtitled in English for our international fans.
