Women also manage the harvest and the household finances. The law of matriarchy What would a world ruled by women look like? Would it be more egalitarian, better organised or less violent, as some would like to believe? Can women do better than men? To sketch out some avenues, this documentary series sets out to meet traditional societies where women hold and transmit power, and are the decision-makers for their community. Fresh out of his teens, Lionel is about to leave his village to marry his loved one, Eva. He will live there under the authority of his mother-in-law. Welcomed as a guest, the young man will have to work for the latter by showing her that he deserves his daughter, on pain of repudiation. Before the wedding, Eva will participate in a rite of passage with the elders of the village, who initiate the young girls through songs to their secrets and to sexuality.
