Awful Things We Believed at My Evangelical University
I graduated from an evangelical university. We believed total nonsense. Before my deconstruction of Christianity, I attended an evangelical university. Personally, I had a decent experience, probably due to my demographic and then-fundamentalism. In hindsight, though, I see that many of our common beliefs were not only ridiculous, but dangerous. We thought God could give us the ability to control (AKA completely repress) our sexual needs, that education could threaten our faith if we weren’t careful, and that Jesus can make gay people straight. These ideas permeate the cultures of other Christian universities too. Whether it’s Liberty U, Biola, Houston Baptist University, or any other of the sort, these ideas thrive. If only these colleges could see that evangelists like Christopher Yuan are not more reliable sources than actual scientific data.
