The Kalaidzhi marry exclusively among themselves. In this controversial tradition, money also plays a role. If a man finds the woman of his dreams, he has to make an offer to her parents. The wedding can only take place if both parties agree on a price. For young Kalaidzhi, the bride market is the only possibility to meet a partner. Orthodox faith and customs prevent them from dating, flirting, or even having relationships before marriage. But more and more young Roma are rebelling against this state of affairs. They want to decide their own destiny, love and marry whenever they want. Especially those who get married at the age of 15, for whom this union means the end of their autonomy, because a life of being a stay-at-home mother awaits them.
