"What is Knowledge?" with Vsauce2 and Neil deGrasse Tyson

Teacher or professor: StarTalk
Subject: Astronomy
Content of the Lesson: Watch Vsauce2's video with Neil here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzPF9VajSdY For this video we’re collaborating with @Vsauce2 to explore knowledge and how we understand it. Neil deGrasse Tyson is joined by comic co-host Chuck Nice and Kevin Lieber, host of Vsauce2, to investigate how we know what we know. We start with a big question: if the objective of science is to know that you know something, then are we ever done knowing? Neil tells us why science more often gives us deeper understanding of what is true rather than changing the truth. We explore Sir Isaac Newton’s work and how it was given a deeper understanding when Albert Einstein came onto the scene. And you’ll learn why Newton’s work wasn’t wrong, it just wasn’t complete. Then, we ponder if there is anything in science we can never know. Will we ever scientifically understand love? Art? Neil shares his idea for an experiment that makes Kevin and Chuck consider him an evil genius. We also discuss why scientists have a “serendipity mode” on experiments. Lastly, we reminisce about the Hubble Deep Field photo and how it almost never came to be.
